“Let us invest for the future of Binalonan. Let us invest in educating the youth, our next generation of leaders.” – Mayor Mon-Mon
Binalonians can now look forward to better, affordable and quality education with the pronouncement of Municipal Order 2011-05 declaring Binalonan as a University Town. While Laguna has UP Los Banos and Dumaguete has Siliman University, Binalonan is eyeing to become the next educational hub with the establishment of the University of Eastern Pangasinan, spearheaded by Mayor Ramon “Mon-Mon” V. Guico III. A first of its kind in the town, UEP was conceived from a noble intention of delivering not just the best practices in education but also providing relevant knowledge and useful skills to its students. Scholarship grants are likewise given to deserving students from lower-income families.
Located along MacArthur Highway in barangay Canarvacanan, the imposing UEP campus is envisioned to be an architectural display right in the midst of this idyllic town. Once completed, UEP will have three towers housing various facilities for learning, a gymnasium, sports facilities, food court and garden plaza.
Aside from UEP, Binalonan is also home to the WCC Aeronautical and Technological College, WCC Pilot Academy, and Manantan Technical School, and two Bible schools. Talks are underway on the possible set-up of satellite schools based in Manila, thus providing Binalonians more options in which to pursue higher education.
With the educational activities of these tertiary institutions, it is envisioned by Mayor Mon-Mon, the founder of UEP and WCC, and the proponent of the University Town concept, the local economy will be given its much needed boost to create more jobs and livelihood, increase their purchase power, while educating more youths. This strengthens his campaign promise in 2010 – “May college graduate bawat pamilya.”
Mayor Mon-Mon gives equal emphasis to the public basic education system by creating a new elementary school – the Ramon J. Guico Sr. Elementary School. This new institution will be catering to the students of Barangays Sto. Nino and Canarvacanan, thus making every barangay in Binalonan have a school to offer to their youth. Furthermore, under his administration, Mayor Mon-Mon constantly works with the DepEd in order to improve the quality of education in the areas of English, Science, Mathematics, Arts, and Athletics. This is to prepare the next generation for job competencies and increase their chances for employment with a mark of Christian values, leadership, and excellence. His battle cry “Binalonan ang Galing!” wrests on this vision for the youth.
